Dr. Michael R. Boyd has announced his retirement from the 窪蹋勛圖厙, effective March 31, 2014. During his time at the University, Dr. Boyd has served as the Abraham Mitchell Chair and Director of the 窪蹋勛圖厙 Mitchell Cancer Institute and is a tenured member of the University faculty.

Mike and his wife, Ginni, leave an everlasting legacy at the University of South Alabama, said 窪蹋勛圖厙 Acting President Dr. John Smith. Coming from the National Institutes of Health as MCIs first director, he brought us instant credibility, and Ginni was an active partner with Mike in her volunteerism, supporting both the University and our community. Together, they were an energetic team for the University.

Prior to joining MCI in 2002, Boyd served as a senior physician-scientist and executive administrator at the National Cancer Institute of the National Institutes of Health near Washington, D.C.

The 窪蹋勛圖厙 Mitchell Cancer Institute provides cancer treatments to more than 6,500 patients, generating some 60,000 patient visits annually. With approximately 300 employees the Mitchell Cancer Institute serves the Central Gulf Coast region with its expanding clinical and research endeavors. Dr. Ron Franks, 窪蹋勛圖厙 vice president for health sciences, is serving as MCIs interim director while a nationwide search is launched for Boyds successor.
